The sealing of the Indo-Bangladesh border is the topmost priority for making Assam free from illegal migrants, cross border terrorism and trafficking from across the Indo-Bangladesh border.
The Border Security Force is guarding the Indo-Bangladesh Border. A Second Line Defence is provided by Assam Police.
So far 201.51 km length of border is covered by physical barrier i.e. fence. Out of the balance border length of 61.49 km, 13.38 km is planned to be covered by physical barrier and rest 48.11 km by non-physical barrier due to riverine features.
Construction work of border fence of 13.38 km is being carried out by CPWD and NBCC.
The non-physical barrier is proposed to be plugged by Technology solutions.Co-ordination and Monitoring are being done with the BSF, CPWD and NBCC.
Indo-Bhutan Border
The Indo-Bhutan International Border of length 265.8 km is under the vigil of the SSB. The entire stretch of this border is covered by forest area including Manas National Park, a World Heritage Site.
Along the Indo-Bhutan International Border, a border road with a length of around 300 km from JAMDUAR in Kokrajhar district to SHIKARIDANGA in Udalguri district is being constructed.
The executing agency is PWD (NH & Bldg.), Assam.
This road is highly important from strategic and security point of view. This road will connect all the Camps of SSB and run as close to the international border as possible.
This road will also serve to keep vigil in the Forest area.Prospects of Tourism in the area is also expected.
